In upcoming bitcoin news, TGB would like to remind all bitcoin-qt users to update their client to 0.8.1 before May 15th. On March 11th, there was a fork in the block chain:
A bitcoin miner running version 0.8.0 created a large block (at height 225,430) that is incompatible with earlier versions of Bitcoin.
The result was a block chain fork, with miners, merchants and users running the new version of bitcoin accepting, and building on, that block, and miners, merchants and users running older versions of bitcoin rejecting it and creating their own block chain.
All pools running the 0.7 version of the software were not able to accept the 0.8.0 version of the block. To correct this all miners reverted back to the 0.7 version.
Bitcoin developers declared a May 15th upgrade deadline. After this date:
If you are using Bitcoin-Qt/bitcoind version 0.7.2 or earlier, you must take action before 15 May, 2013. If you do nothing, you are likely to be left behind and will be out of sync with the rest of the Bitcoin network.
We recommend that you upgrade to version 0.8.1 before the 15th of May to avoid any issues. If you are a solo miner or mining pool operator, please see the the notes at the end of this page for how to upgrade safely.
